Project Summary: Currently there is an open public debate on the need for the development of community based social services and professionals in Slovakia get increasingly involved in this subject. Social Work Advisory Board (SWAB), is one of the leaders of the development of community based services and deinstitutionalization of social work in Slovakia. SWAB has been developing cooperation with its key partner, private university Diakonhjemmet Høgskole Rogaland from the Norwegian town Sandnes for long-time.

The main output of the project is a comparative study that brings to Slovakia examples of good practice from the Scandinavian countries - Norway and its social system. Moreover, based on collected qualitative data and controlled interviews processed from three basic points of view (expert, provider, recipient and his family ) connects and compares the common features occurring in both countries, despite differences in the social systems. On the basis of these outcomes it will possible to expand the study to other countries when using a similar methodology. Observations and information from the study trip were published in the journal INTEGRATION and comparative study released as separate publication under the title Else and Ema - independent living in the community.
